The month of March has seen some fun days on the mountain, especially if you look for lines that are not so obvious. The snow has keep falling and could do for another week or two. I remember a powder day back in ’04 or ’05 on closing day at Teine in April!

Last year did the same if you check our Spring Daze in Niseko and Niseko Winter – Strike II posts across at discoverniseko.net. So if your coming in March or are planning for next year it is not a bad option, no crowds, chances of fresh snow and bluebird spring days await and your accommodation will be cheap too!

The same is true for April, however snowfall is far less likely, but great spring skiing and longer warmer bluebird days are on the cards. If you are into park Hirafu sets one up on the upper mountain after Hanazono closes their AWESOME park and pipe down. Here is to Spring!

Enjoy the photo’s below, top is spring park last April and the bottom is the same run on December 2 , almost 4 months ago!

Well looking back a year at our Discover Niseko blog it was pretty much the same.

Every now and again during a winter and sometimes more often than not in the Southern Hemisphere, there comes a time when the elements turn against us and turn once soft, pristine and I might add quiet slopes into noisy, unforgiving ice fields.

Such was the case on a recent trip to Teine in Sapporo.

Off piste is a complete no go zone and all we are left with are the groomed slopes where we hear every sideslip of every learner as they frantically struggle to slow them selves down.
It’s icy!
But all is not lost, mornings are the key the groomed is in the best condition then and the actual sheets of ice are still covered by the corduroy. The snow is fast and the slopes are empty, it is the perfect opportunity to get your carve on, put those new carving skis to the test or if your snowboarding take yourself back to the early 90s and get that hand dragging on every turn.
