Spring Riding and Golden week in Niseko
27 Apr, 2012
With such a beautiful day in Niseko today, with views out to the sea of Japan, it is hard to think that it is dangerous in the mountains. Well word of warning, IT IS.
This time of year it is possibly even more dangerous than winter as the deep base just wants to give up and let go, last Friday this did happen and in the kaisan no sawa backbowl a full depth avalanche occurred, with debris thickness reaching 10metres at some points in the avalanche's terminus.
So leading into Golden week we will be taking care on where we ride keeping away from convexed rolls and the large cornices that formed over the winter. Be safe and enjoy!
